Mr. Chavez is a member of the Firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, where his practice focuses on commercial litigation and arbitration, energy regulation and disputes, financial rehabilitation and insolvency proceedings, and technology-related matters.

He represents a diverse clientele, including the country’s largest power and transportation utilities, leading domestic and multinational banks and financial institutions, property developers, mineral contractors, and global technology companies.

Mr. Chavez has handled, or is currently handling, a number of significant cases, including:

  • Representing the country’s largest power distribution utility in multiple domestic ad hoc arbitrations and regulatory disputes involving the collection of pass-through charges imposed by power generators;
  • Acting as counsel for a Philippine mineral contractor in an ad hoc arbitration against the Republic of the Philippines concerning a Financial and Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA);
  • Advising a multinational technology company on matters involving content moderation, platform liability, and legislative inquiries related to social media regulation;
  • Assisting an Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company in enforcing a foreign arbitral award against a Philippine petroleum corporation and its affiliate;
  • Representing the Philippine flag carrier in the successful recognition in Philippine courts of its Chapter 11 restructuring proceedings commenced in the United States;
  • Serving as trial counsel for a major domestic universal bank in litigation that resulted in a monetary judgment against a plaintiff implicated in the insolvency of a German payment processing firm;
  • Assisting another universal bank in the successful rehabilitation of the Philippine subsidiary of a South Korean shipbuilding company; and
  • Representing the Philippine Bar Association in its petition before the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

Mr. Chavez has appeared in international arbitration before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), construction arbitrations before the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission (CIAC), and several ad hoc domestic arbitrations. He is also a trained arbitrator of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI).

He is the co-author of the Philippine chapters of the following publications:

  • 2024 Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters, Legal 500

Mr. Chavez has participated in international moot court competitions, including the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition, and the International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition, both as a team member and a coach from 2013 to 2023.

He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2016 and is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Makati City Chapter.
