ACCRALAW Partner Jose Eduardo T. Genilo delivered a lecture on Patent Drafting for the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Philippine Council for Agriculture and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARD) Patent Master Class last 10 to 14 August 2020. He discussed how to draft patent specification and claims. He also talked about how patent claims relate to patent law and highlighted the importance of good patent claims.
Mr. Genilo also lectured on Patent Infringement last 13 October 2020 as part of the DOST and PCAARD Master Class. He discussed how patent infringement is committed, the relevant case law, and the evidence needed to prove infringement. He also explained how patent claim drafting affects infringement cases. He also discussed patent infringement in light of the Philippine Competition Act.
As part of said Master Class, Mr. Genilo also served as Mentor to the students from 14 to 18 September 2020. He advised students on the standards for claim drafting, using his experience on patent prosecution with the Philippine IP Office.
The Patent Master Class is an initiative of DOST-PCAARD and Association of PAQE Professionals Inc. aimed towards preparing State Universities to patent their inventions. It was attended by representatives from State Universities throughout the country.
Mr. Genilo specializes in patent law, he passed the 2007 Patent Agent Qualifying Exam administered by the Philippine IP Office in cooperation with the European Patent Office. He is involved in drafting of specifications and claims, prosecution of patent applications, and patent litigation. He is recognized by legal publications for his expertise in the field of intellectual property law in the Philippines, such as Asia IP.
