Teodoro D. Regala, Sr., one of the five founders of ACCRALAW, was known to bring that high-octane energy to meetings or to just about any gathering. He is passionate about law and trivia, which speaks volumes of his many interests.
Ted, or Teddy as he is known to friends, was exposed early on to the legal profession. His father, Roberto Regala, was a lawyer and later a Supreme Court justice. His father also served in the foreign service which provided Teddy the opportunities to study in San Francisco, California and Sydney, Australia.
For his law degree, he studied in the University of the Philippines College of Law where he met Edgardo J. Angara, Jose C. Concepcion, and Manuel G. Abello, co-founders of ACCRALAW. Teddy found his match in terms of brilliance, passion and love for the law in his friends and later ACCRALAW co-founders. Teddy also pursued post-graduate studies in Harvard Law School.
Teddy was consistently recognized for his contributions to the legal profession by different international law organizations and publications. Even through his retirement, Chambers Global and Chambers Asia Pacific recognized him as a Senior Statesman from 2014 to 2019. Asialaw Profiles and the Legal 500 recognized him as the Leading Lawyer for Banking and Capital Markets and Corporate M&A.
Without a doubt, Teddy will always be remembered for his brilliance and professionalism. ACCRALAW is grateful to Teddy for his many contributions in building and growing the Firm. Not only because he served as the Firm’s Managing Partner from 1981 to 1985, but also because he closely mentored the younger lawyers of ACCRALAW.
It has been two years since Teddy has passed on but he will always be remembered fondly.
