On 10 July 2024, ACCRALAW’s Cebu Branch conducted its annual legal forum at Cebu City Sports Club with the theme, “Accelerating Innovation in Law and Business”. It was attended by more than 100 participants from leading local and multinational companies in Cebu and in the Visayas region, as well as law students from the University of San Carlos.
The participants were welcomed by Cebu Branch Head and Senior Partner Ma. Iolanda B. Abella.
Mr. Dominic Ligot gave a talk entitled, “Understanding the Implications, Ethics, and Governance of GenAI”. He highlighted the developments in AI and the consequences of its use.
Associate Reynaleigh H. De Los Reyes discussed “Algorithms to Advocacy: Legal Perspective on Artificial Intelligence”. She talked about the legal framework on AI regulation and draft legislation on this topic in the Philippines.
Shifting focus to business and tax, Associate Ma. Isabela P. Algarme-Aquino’s talk was on “Simplifying Taxation: Exploring the Ease of Paying Taxes Act”, where she provided updates on recent changes and developments on tax processes, compliance, and substantiation.
Associates Chrisha Ver R. Romano-Weigel and Dominic John Ivan P. Aseo discussed updates on distribution of service charge, data privacy and legal implications of intra-corporate transfers in their talk “Adapting to Change: Exploring Recent Legal Development in Company Operations”.
After the open forum, Deputy Branch Head and Partner Eduardo V. Soleng Jr. delivered the closing remarks and thanked the participants for participating in this year’s ACCRALAW Cebu Legal Forum.
