ACCRALAW Authors Philippine Chapter of ITechLaw’s 2025 Startup Legal Playbook

ACCRALAW contributed the Philippine chapter of the Startup Legal Playbook (Third Edition, 2025), published by the International Technology Law Association (“ITechLaw”). The chapter was authored by Partner Christopher Louie D. Ocampo, Senior Associate Enrique F. Nitura, and Associate Aloysius Francis M. Bresnan.

The Startup Legal Playbook is a flagship project of ITechLaw’s Startup Committee and features contributions from leading law firms in over 60 countries. The Playbook serves as a quick reference guide for startup founders and legal advisors by providing high-level overviews of jurisdiction-specific issues, including legal foundations, corporate structures, foreign investment rules, intellectual property protection, data privacy, artificial intelligence regulation, labor engagement, consumer protection, and tax and funding considerations. Each country’s contribution is structured around a standardized set of questions, enabling startups to assess legal risks and regulatory challenges across jurisdictions.

ACCRALAW’s contribution highlights the Philippines’ startup landscape, including practical insights on forming a domestic corporation, navigating foreign equity restrictions, complying with local employment and data privacy laws, and securing intellectual property rights. The chapter also discusses notable regulatory trends, including developments in AI governance and startup-related tax incentives.
