In the article, Ms. Culala analyzed the gender-based distinctions governing the acquisition of Philippine citizenship by foreign nationals married to Filipino citizens, exploring the distinct legal pathways respectively available to foreign women and foreign men in such marriages. After underscoring the disparate treatment between the two, she concluded by providing guidance on alternative immigration options for those unable to acquire Philippine citizenship by reason of marriage.
