Cybersecurity in a Work From Home Setup

Enrique F. Nitura, a Senior Associate of the Firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, was one of the speakers in the webinar entitled “The Future of Work From Home in Cybersecurity: Explained”. The webinar was part of the Technical Briefing Thursdays webinar series hosted by the Information Security Officers Group (ISOG). Mr. JP Dunning who leads McAfee’s Foundstone Services consulting for the Asia Pacific was also a speaker at the webinar.

With employees working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Nitura discussed the relevant rules and regulations on data privacy and data protection. He also highlighted the need for policy makers to adapt existing policies to address the novel challenges of the sudden shift to work from home arrangements. He also shared practical advice on how companies can comply with the data privacy laws and various issuances of the National Privacy Commission.

There was an interesting discussion on how and why data security must be each and every employee’s responsibility. In the “new normal”, remote employees or those working from home play an active role in the organization in promoting data privacy and security. Thus, it is important for companies to develop a strong culture of data privacy and security.

The ISOG is an organization formed by cybersecurity professionals with a mission of strengthening Information Security through awareness and education programs and promoting community and fellowship among Information Security leaders of the Philippine financial industry. ACCRALAW is an active partner of the ISOG.

More than 500 participants registered for the webinar held last 27 August 2020 which was broadcast over GoTo Webinar and ISOG’s Facebook page.
