Richmond K. Lee at the New Southbound Intellectual Property Conference

ACCRALAW Partner Richmond K. Lee was a speaker at the 2024 New Southbound Intellectual Property Conference in Taipei, Taiwan last 18 and 19 June 2024. The conference was jointly organized by the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (“TIPO”), the Taiwan Patent Attorneys Association (“TWPAA”) and the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (“APAA”) Taiwan Group.

The conference is part of Taiwan’s implementation of the New Southbound Policy (“NSP”) introduced by former President Tsai Ing-wen in 2016. The NSP is designed to strengthen Taiwan’s relationships with the ten countries that constitute the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (“ASEAN”), Australia, New Zealand, and six countries in South Asia.

The conference was divided into sessions on the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Mr. Lee and Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (“IPOPHL”) Director General Rowel S. Barba were the speakers at the Philippine session, representing the private and public sector, respectively. Over 200 patent practitioners from the industry, government, and academe attended the two-day conference.

Mr. Lee has over twenty years of experience in the practice of intellectual property law. He was part of the team that recently obtained a favorable Supreme Court decision in a patent infringement suit.

Mr. Lee has been recognized as a leading lawyer in his field by Chambers Asia Pacific for twelve consecutive years. He has also been consistently named a Patent Star by Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars, an IP Expert by AsiaIP, and a leading patent professional by IAM Patent 1000.
