On 6 September 2024, ACCRALAW Partner Louie John D. Lood and Associate Chrisha Ver R. Romano-Weigel delivered lectures on important developments on labor and employment laws at a seminar organized by the People Management Association of the Philippines (“PMAP”) Cebu Chapter. The seminar was held at Marco Polo Plaza Hotel and attended by management representatives and HR practitioners. Students from the University of San Carlos Law School also attended.
Mr. Lood’s lecture was about the Guidelines on Contracting and Sub-contracting Under Department Order 174-17. He discussed the legal framework on contracting and sub-contracting arrangements. He provided an update on recent key Supreme Court decisions on this topic. He also discussed best practices and practical tips.
Ms. Romano-Weigel’s lecture was about the Service Charge Law and its Implementing Rules and Regulations. She provided the history of this law and talked about its importance to businesses in the hospitality industry. Her lecture discussed the allocation and distribution of service charges and the procedure for lodging service-charge related disputes with the Department of Labor and Employment. She also discussed practical considerations for covered establishments.
