
ACCRALAW Senior Partner Jose Martin R. Tensuan was one of the speakers at the 6th Global Legal Association (“GLA”) Arbitration and Litigation Conference held in Malaysia. The international conference was attended by more than 250 legal professionals, including Heads of Litigation, General Counsels, Arbitration Experts, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) specialists from across the globe.
Mr. Tensuan discussed expedited procedures in the first level courts (A.M. No. 08-8-7-SC), the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI), the Philippine International Center for Conflict Resolution (PICCR), and the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission (CIAC). He also outlined the Supreme Court of the Philippines’ initiatives to expedite the resolution of cases such as the use of judicial affidavits in lieu of direct examination, stricter requirements for filing complaints, and a defined list of prohibited motions. He also discussed the role of the courts in arbitration proceedings, particularly in applications for interim protection and the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards.
Mr. Tensuan is from the Firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. He is also the Monitor of the Firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Group. He is a member of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration and is currently a Trustee and Officer of the Philippine Institute of Construction Arbitrators and Mediators.
