ACCRALAW Partner George S.D. Aquino conducted an online lecture to discuss the amendments to the Rules on Evidence on 30 April 2020, in view of the recently issued A.M. No. 19-08-15-SC, or the 2019 Revised Rules on Evidence. The webinar was hosted by the Makati City Chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) in partnership with Quisumbing Torres.

The amendments to the Rules on Evidence were adopted to “incorporate the technological advances and developments in law, jurisprudence and international conventions in the past decade.”

Proposals to amend the Rules on Evidence date back to 2008, when former Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno organized a sub-committee for its revision. That sub-committee was composed of, among others, ACCRALAW Of Counsel Rogelio A. Vinluan and Senior Partner Francis Ed. Lim. The Committee on the Revision of the Rules of Court was re-organized in 2019, with Francis Ed. Lim sitting as a member.

Mr. Aquino is a Partner of the Firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. He is also a faculty member of the Ateneo Law School, where he teaches Remedial Law Review, Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure, and Appellate Practice.

The Revised Rules on Evidence takes effect on 1 May 2020.
