Our Firm’s Leland R. Villadolid Jr., Senior Partner of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department, participated as panelist on the topic “Coopetition in the Midst of Competition” before Chief Information Security Officers (CISO), Chief Technology Officers (CTO), Data Privacy Officers (DPO) and Risk Compliance Officers of banks and financial institutions as well as Security Architects and IT consultants at the ISOG “I Am Secure 2019 Industry 4.0 – the 4th Industrial Revolution in the Midst of a Digital Tsunami” Conference last 8 October 2019 held at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel, Makati City.
Mr. Villadolid talked about the legal solutions that may be utilized by banks and financial institutions to safeguard personal information of their customers while at the same time share information in order to prevent and/or combat cyber security threats to their respective institutions. Mr. Villadolid also discussed the advantages of having in place working agreements with the regulators, such as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), National Privacy Commission (NPC) and Department of Communication and Technology (DICT) as well as law enforcement agencies, the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group and NBI Cybercrime Division for more effective and timely response to cyber-attacks. Mr. Villadolid stressed that in cyber-attack situations, time is of the essence such that a quick response will spell the difference between minimal and catastrophic damages to the targeted bank and/or financial institution. Likewise present during the panel discussion were: Mr. Mhel Plabasan – Director of Technology Risk and Innovation Supervision Department, BSP; Mr. Alex Peleg – Head CyberOps, Cyberint; Mr. Joey Garcia – Senior Manager, Solutions Architect, AWS; and Mr. Benjamin Castillo III – Managing Director of the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP).
