ACCRALAW Partner Christopher Louie D. Ocampo was invited by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (“IBP”) Iloilo Chapter to lecture at their Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (“MCLE”) Seminar held on 28 – 31 August 2024 at Iloilo City.
Mr. Ocampo delivered two lectures. His first lecture was on the Effective Use of Modes of Discovery. He started with the concept of discovery, its purposes and benefits, as well as its possible disadvantages. He then discussed each mode of discovery under Rules 23 to 29 of the Rules of Court, emphasizing the procedure for each mode and the crucial sanctions for not complying with any of them. He also offered tips on when and how to use each mode of discovery, and shared strategies that work well in practice.
Mr. Ocampo’s second lecture was on Court Involvement in Arbitration. He started the lecture with the theoretical and practical underpinnings of arbitration. He then discussed the laws on international commercial arbitration, domestic arbitration, and construction arbitration, as well as the process of arbitration in general. Lastly, he focused on the various remedies under Special Alternative Dispute Resolution Rules.
Mr. Ocampo is a Partner at ACCRALAW’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. He also teaches Evidence at the University of the Philippines College of Law, and arbitration at the De La Salle University College of Law. He regularly gives MCLE lectures to several IBP Chapters and law institutes.
