Appellate Practice

The Firm is a veteran in the field of appellate practice. ACCRALAW’s appellate work is well-known for its thorough research and novel approach to legal issues.

Two particularly noteworthy landmark cases still studied by law students and to date, repeatedly cited by the Supreme Court are the Gokongwei v. SEC and the Regala v. Sandiganbayan. In the Gokongwei case, the Firm successfully represented San Miguel Corporation (San Miguel) in a case involving Gokongwei’s ineligibility for election to the Board of Directors of San Miguel, pursuant to a provision in the by-laws which disqualified the election to the board of any person engaged in a business competitive with or antagonistic to, San Miguel. In the case of Regala v. Sandiganbayan, the Firm’s position was upheld by the Supreme Court. The case involved the refusal of its own lawyers to reveal the identity of its clients in a case involving the Presidential Commission on Good Government.

The Firm has indeed contributed to the shaping of Philippine jurisprudence. ACCRALAW is at the forefront of written and oral advocacy before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.
